With reality TV shows as Master Chef and Gordon Ramsey’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ popping up – the world of cooking and fine dining has become an absolute phenomenon and a great medium in mentoring and educating the likes of home cooks to aspiring chef’s to be.
Recently, in my spec to become one of those people who appreciate fine dining and culinary excellence – I had visited a world, fused together where the delights of eastern influences of simplicity & color meets the western style of beauty and refinement. This restaurant known to the very few is called the ‘Monkey Magic’ which is located on the trendy strip of Crown Street, Surry Hills in Sydney.
The culinary stylings of Monkey Magic is that of pure artistry where it’s Head Chef Hidetoshi Tsuboi is known to hand pick fresh produce and use premium products to serve its guests and its patrons whom he treats as VIP’s a tray of visual and tasteful delights like its infamous ‘Crab Leaves’ which contained finely chopped crab meat with ginger, chilli, lime and amazu served on a betel leaf. And an array of Sashimi that was beautifully set but left you contented to having more; whilst sipping a open collection of world renowned cocktails.
The atmosphere and architectural design of the establishment compliments its Eastern/Western fusion and its culinary delights with providing an ambience that combines pure, raw materials and its earthly colours with old world and the rustic feel of sandblasted brick work, stained timber flooring and industrial ducting.
Overall, Monkey Magic is a restaurant that combines refined visual tastes with a New York style bar/restaurant ambience and is a must when visiting Australia.
