For the Spring/Summer 2010 collection Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decided to revisit their heritage, their romantic feel and true Italian craftsmanship. They journeyed to Sicilia, and stopped by the Tango clubs in Latin America.
The collection was filled with all that is associated with romance and, not just any romance, but the very sexy and steamy kind of romance. Lace, velvet and endless fringes on dresses, corsets, well tailored underwear and elegant masculine suits took us back to the foundation of Dolce&Gabbana’s time-honored designs, the ones Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell strut in back in the 80s.
The interesting fact is; what Stefano Gabbana had to say when the pair decided to go back and revisit their heritage: “The magazines and the designers — we always focus on the image and what’s new. We can forget about the customers. In the end, the women ask for really sexy” explained the fashion designer, furthermore declaring that they researched the considerable input they directly obtained from social networking websites and YouTube to figure what their customers really want. It would be appropriate to also note the airing of “Pre Show Diaries” compilation of videos offering glimpses of the designers at work on this collection and showing the fashion show live on the Dolce&Gabbana Channel on YouTube, generated 16 million hits. Furthermore, the high number of hits on the Dolce&Gabbana-branded Google page made it the most viewed branded channel in the world, according to news on WWD.
