The Sophisticated Distress of Balmain Homme: Spring/Summer 2010

The second collection for Balmain Homme by star fashion designer, Christophe Decarnin is a clear indication of where he intends to take the legendary French house for men.

The style is distressed, casual-chic, sophisticated, infused with rock-glam, which is an attribute heavily associated with Balmain since Decarnin’s involvement, and reflecting on Decarnin’s personal style. Some would even compare Balmain Homme to Dior Homme of now or of the Hedi Slimane years, which I can agree on the welcome resemblance, but I do see a different path, a more subtle path for Balmain Homme, subtle in style and irony.

The collection is simple, but the styling is flawless, particularly the look of a sharply tailored blazer with a slouchy white shirt and sweatpants.

Model Clément Chabernaud (one of my favorites along the lines of Ash Stymest) is again the face of Balmain Homme for Spring/Summer 2010, and the flawless, beautiful photography of both the campaign and lookbook is by Paris-born up-and-coming photographer Karim Sadli.
