Lady Dior’s Rouge Incarnation Sings With Franz Ferdinand

Marion Cotillard, the face of Lady Dior, returns this season as Lady Rouge. While the first campaign last year (as featured on SQUA.RE) included a Lady Noire film, the second campaign features a song by Lady Rouge, “The Eyes of Mars,” a tune performed with Scottish rock band, Franz Ferdinand.

The Lady Noire campaign featured an Olivier Dahan film, The Lady Noire Affair, where Cotillard plays a woman trying to rescue her man from mobsters. Now, the Lady Rouge campaign features Cotillard as a songstress who sings “The Eyes of Mars” with Franz Ferdinand. The band, which was created with the goal of making “music that girls could dance to,” wrote the sultry tune for Lady Dior. The lyrics are resonant with Marion Cotillard’s description of the Lady Dior brand as “feminine, charismatic and free.”

Three different personas in three different cities will form the trifecta that is Lady Dior. The first campaign, photographed by Peter Lindbergh featured Lady Noire – a mysterious woman who is seen around various locations in Paris, clothed in black, and clutching a black Lady Dior handbag. The second, Lady Rouge, is a sexy, glamorous diva who wears sheer lace gowns, and satin dresses, holds a Lady Dior handbag, and sports richly painted lips, all of these in a bold, red color. This campaign was photographed in New York by Annie Leibovitz. The third chapter will feature Lady Blue in the third city, Shanghai.

Lady Dior is Dior’s collection of handbags made of lambskin, patent leather, python, crocodile and goatskin. Dior has stated that French actress and Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, or Lady Marion, was chosen as the Lady Dior muse because of her audacity and elegance. Also, the bags in the collection famously feature a Cannage or quilting of the material that is modeled after the structure of the Eiffel Tower. Both of these are French connections that Lady Dior prides itself on.

Fans of Lady Dior handbags include graceful, dainty women known for their chic sense of style, such as Princess Diana, Sarah Jessica Parker, Leighton Meester and Freida Pinto. Items from the Lady Dior collection can be viewed and purchased on the website, www.ladydior.com. “The Eyes of Mars” is also available for a listen on the website.
