(Untitled): Maison Martin Margiela

This is the first fragrance by one of the best design houses there is, Maison Martin Margiela, fittingly named (Untitled).

When extremely private Martin Margiela left his eponymous label (now headed by a young design team) last year, it was devastating news to many of his fans, including us at SQUA.RE, but instead of leaving the fashion world with a sartorially exquisite and challenging collection, he left us with a perfume, a perfume he was very deeply involved in making for the past 3 years (yes, 3 whole years!).

In accordance to the anonymity and sheer label-less-ness of the maison, Martin Margiela handpicked the ingredients for the (Untitled) perfume. The beautifully simple bottle inspired by medicinal and classical perfumery bottles of the 19th century with a cotton thread which is tied on by hand, resembles the famous four stitches seen on all Margiela’s garments. The bottle was a design collaboration between Maison Martin Margiela and Fabien Baron of Baron Baron.

The minimal packaging of the beautiful bottle that contains the green liquid everyone is curious to smell (or bathe into) is very Maison Martin Magiela.

The perfume’s (produced by L’Oreal, without market testing) fresh scent ingredients contain Galbanum essence, Box green and Bitter orange blossom absolute as top notes, Jasmine and Galbanum resinoid as middle notes and Musk and Cedar as base notes.

The perfume will launch worldwide in Maison Martin Margiela stores on April 2010, meanwhile it has exclusively debuted in Colette, Paris.
