Cannes Chivalry Alert: Day 10, the Vega Brothers, Naomi Watts

The Chivalry alerts are daily reports from Cannes with Chivas, Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival. Each alert gives you an exclusive, insider’s view of the most chivalrous moment witnessed by Olivier Bassil each day at the Festival.

Last night, two young Peruvian directors and brothers Daniel and Diego Vega premiered their first feature film, Octubre, which was screened before a packed audience within the Un Certain Regard competition.

Brought together by their strong fraternal bond, the talented duo, 36 and 35, respectively, shared a sense of fulfilment in being able to experience this career milestone together. “We have always had the same friends and when we party, it’s always together, we’ve always gotten along and we love each other a lot,” said Daniel Vega.

Similarly, Naomi Watts showed the importance of fraternity on the red-carpet premiere of Fair Game, where she was accompanied by Valerie Plame, the real-life inspiration for the role of the CIA agent played by the actress. Fiercely private and apprehensive of the public eye, Plame approached the red-carpet nervously, but Watts quickly stepped in to help her navigate the crowds, standing beside her and protectively holding her hand. The ladies formed a powerful duo bringing strength, glamour and fraternity to the red carpet as photographers and fans admired the scene.
