Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011: “The Human Anatomy”

The genius of Riccardo Tisci’s dark imagination is that, not in any occasion, does it fail to impress or surprise. Leaving his usual gothic formula behind, For Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010, Tisci was inspired by Frida Kahlo, and her three obsessions: love, religion, and the human anatomy.  In the painstakingly detailed artwork of the dresses, the human skeleton is present in form and silhouette, with Chantilly lace, ceramic, tulle, porcelain, ostrich features and baboon fur as some of the material the has been used .


Alexis Mabille Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011: “High-Eveningwear”

Featuring big silhouettes, formfitting tailoring and lace, the Haute Couture collection by Alexis Mabille was an exquisite showcase of divine tailoring and extravagance for high-eveningwear.

 

Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011: “The Lion”

Karl Lagerfeld presented an outstanding Haute Couture collection, befitting the honorary “lion” that was magnificently created to honor Coco Chanel’s astrological sign, Leo. The collection seemed slight darker in tone in comparison with his previous couture collection, with colors such as maroon, navy and chocolate brown mixed with encrusted jewels. The voluptuousness of the shapes were also contrasting and sever, adding some drama to the legendary Chanel flare.

Jean-Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011: “Modern Classics of Gaultier”

For his latest Haute Couture collection, le Parisien infant terrible, Jean-Paul Gaultier revisits many of his signature classics. The masculine vs. feminine aesthetics made famous by the designer in the 80s were a reminder of how influential he has been over many of today’s young designers who value the theatrics and commercial appeal of his creations. There was also the ever stunning Dita von Teese, strutting down the runway in Gaultier’s creations for La Perla.

 

Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011: “Flowers”

Celebrating his love for nature, John Galliano showcased an extraordinary study of flowers (tulips in particular). The Christian Dior Haute Couture collection was a fierce and superb translation of extensive research of the delicate nature of flowers. The silhouettes were in full bloom and vibrant colors. Milliner Stephen Jones takes credit for the innovative headgear that looked like the plastic florists use. John Galliano proved to those who might have forgotten, that he still perfectly knows how to tend his creations.
