SQUA.RE Presents: NOA COUTURE

Standing out in the saturated world of fashion is not easy, but few have the capable talents to do so. I am glad to share with you one of the up-and-coming shining stars of fashion from the Middle East, NOA COUTURE by Saudi Arabian designer Nawaf Saud. His latest collection is shown for the time exclusively on SQUA.RE.

The concept of NOA COUTURE is where the theatrics, drama and lavishness of the East and West collide in the lucidity of a dream. The final creations are urban glamour with major elements of his cultural heritage and theatrical effects, transpiring a sense of love for life and displaying a wide myriad of colors, a direct reflection of a life full of glamour and mystery.

NOA COUTURE started in 2005 in London and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia simultaneously, “I was born in Riyadh and since I was a child, I was fascinated by the simple concept of the needle and thread. I wondered how such a small tool could be so powerful and capable of creating such magnificent, extensive garments and dresses. I used to imagine certain images of humans in motion and the movement of the body floating in a realm of fantasy with fluidity and unrestraint motion” said Nawaf Saud. After attending the prestigious Central Saint Martin in London, Nawaf recalls his experience, “there I was inspired by the idea of mixing the East and the West, but I wanted to do it in a unique way that no other designer had yet attempted to do before. Some of my work went on display at the college exhibition.”

Nawaf’s sources of inspiration come from various place and people, from the surrealist paintings, Italian art films, to the New York City skyline and regional mud huts in Saudi Arabia. There’s also a strong feminine approach that comes from his appreciation of strong women.

But the most interesting and significant influence come from a source very close to Nawaf, “the main inspiration comes from my mother and her stylized sense of dressing in old couture fashion houses with the heritage garments. Traveling all over the world and being exposed to world culture at such a young age also helped open my eyes to the world of fashion. I am also influenced by my cultural heritage, which includes various ceremonies, and family traditions and gatherings and occasions. I take those forgotten fabrics and materials associated with these rituals and revive them in a new, modern manner that adapts to contemporary lifestyle, while still keeping an eye on the future,” said Nawaf. “What happens when a Bedouin meets a cowboy? Or the Sea creature meets the sky stars?” is the best way to describe NOA COUTURE.

Soon Nawaf Saud will be opening the first NOA COUTURE boutique in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia later this year. Nawaf often sell his creations to clients all over the world, to contact NOA COUTURE for more information, please send your inquiries to noa.couture@gmail.com, and click here to visit the NOA COUTURE website.
