Marc Jacobs abandoned his sense of chic from the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter collection and went on a “camp” trail from China to the African Safari. There were Chinoiserie, animal prints, fringe, lace and not so subtle elements of Art Deco and Art Nouveau, all of that combined with infinity of colours, bold colours. The collection was loud, full of energy and overtly stylized party dresses in all cuts and styles. I couldn’t help but recognize historical Yves Saint Laurent references, a point of direct reference for most Spring/Summer 2011 collections. The inspiration came from a Susan Sontag (and American author and political activist), who said in an essay: “The relation between boredom and camp taste cannot be overestimated” (I’ll leave you to contemplate on that for now).
