“Venus is Furs”: Freja Beha Erichsen and Iris Strubegger by Steven Meisel, Vogue Italia November 2010

In one of the sexiest editorials in 2010, Venus in Furs keeps me wondering, whether it is a reference to The Velvet Underground song (particularly the reference to leather and fur) or the groundbreaking 1870 novel by Austrian novelist, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Yet when I see this editorial it reminds the 60s flair and of several Beatles songs. This extremely sensual and alluring editorial is photographer by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer. Models; Freja Beha Erichsen, Iselin Steiro, Iris Strubegger, Alla Kostromichova, Andrej Pejic, Michael Tintiuc and Tomek S are clad (some of them) in Chanel and Ann Demeulemeester.

  2. Maybe I am missing a point here BUT it is not sensual at all! Fur in itself is a sexy thing, positions of the bodies are OK, but can be better, BUT the most important – the bodies of people are not attractive – i cannot see the difference between men and women and I am sorry to say they look like corpses rather than like humans in sensual positions!

  3. @Serafima: Exactly! When you hear “venus” & “furs”, you’re imagining some great bold spread, not a pale-as-paper, lacklustre series of pics. Gets my blah vote!
