STILL MOVING AFTER ALL THESE YEARS: THE .GIF!

.GIF by Jim Drain Though its recent vogue might deceive you, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the animated .GIF (that dancing baby grew up so fast)! In celebration of this, interactive .GIF incubation area Tumblr has teamed up with Paddle8 for Moving the Still: A Festival of GIFS , the first open call and exhibition of its kind which will somehow showcase the image files both digitally and in “real space.” Chief selection council member Johnny Misheff has teamed up with Paddle8 to invite many well-known creatives—think the Mulleavy sisters, Ryan Trecartin, Nicola Formichetti, Inez & Vinoodh, and the like—to serve as a selection committee of sorts, each choosing 25 .GIF submissions to be shown in their own specific categories. Anyone can submit .GIFs for consideration, and if selected, will see their work displayed in an exhibition during Miami Basel. Today, Paddle8 has debuted an editorial project to supplement this, featuring work by Nick Knight, Spencer Sweeney, Jim Drain, and more! Check it out here
